About us
Vision
“To challenge the social inequalities and empower the vulnerable by enabling them to help themselves”
Mission
“To mobilise and harness the power of children, youth, women and community at large to combat illiteracy, ignorance, gender discrimination, health issues (especially STI/RTI and HIV/AIDS) and the evil of drug & alcohol addiction with an ultimate aim of crime prevention and development”
Gunjan Organisation, established in 2003, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving public health, empowering women, supporting the education of women and children, and providing care and rehabilitation for people affected by drug and alcohol addiction. Gunjan has developed deep community roots and a strong reputation for delivering impactful programs, particularly in Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh.
The organisation holds the distinction of being the State-Level Coordinating Agency for Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), Government of India, for the Scheme of Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drugs) Abuse.
Gunjan’s core service area is Drug Demand Reduction through a combination of prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and capacity building of key stakeholders such as healthcare providers, law enforcement, educators, and community leaders. The organisation also actively engages in public health awareness through a Community Radio Station operating in Dharamshala, which serves as a platform for social awareness and community dialogue.
Gunjan operates three MSJE-sponsored de-addiction centres (Integrated Rehabilitation Centres for Addicts – IRCAs) located in Kullu, Hamirpur, and Una. The organisation also leads targeted interventions for high-risk populations and provides care and support for people living with HIV (PLHIV) through community support centres.
History and Background
Gunjan Organisation was founded in 2003 by a group of committed professionals and social workers who recognised the need for grassroots-level intervention in public health and social welfare. The organisation started with small-scale community outreach programs focused on health and literacy. Over time, it expanded its scope to include drug and alcohol rehabilitation, women’s empowerment, and support for vulnerable populations.
Key milestones include:
✔️Recognition as a State-Level Coordinating Agency by MSJE
✔️Establishment of three de-addiction centres (IRCAs)
✔️Successful implementation of HIV/AIDS intervention programs
✔️Expansion of women’s empowerment and education initiatives
✔️Launch of the Dharamshala Community Radio Station
